Protect the Green Belt at Bailes Lane Normandy

We the undersigned petition Guildford Borough Council to Serve an Article 4 Direction on the recently sold land to the west of Bailes Lane, Normandy, GU3, to remove permitted development rights and to require all future development to have planning permission.

We the undersigned petition Guildford Borough Council to grant an Article 4 Direction on some 28 acres of agricultural Green Belt land in Normandy, the large part of which has now been named by its new owners as "Bailes Brook - Private Orchards". We further request that the new owners, "Land for Life", include a statement by the Planning Department when searches come in on the land, advising prospective purchasers of the Article 4 Direction and the reasons for it, emphasising the strict planning policies in place.

This traditional and protected landscape is under severe threat. The fields have been parcelled up into small plots for sale by the new owners, ostensibly as 'orchards' but with no control over the eventual use to which they will be put. A multiplicity of small plots, regardless of the use to which they are put, will detract significantly from the openness of the landscape in this part of the Green Belt.

In addition, without Article 4 controls, the current open agricultural grassland risks becoming an ugly scene of mismatched fencing, hard-standing, stabling, vehicles and neglected agricultural land gone to seed and weeds. The precedent is all too visible in the nearby area known as Wanborough Fields.
