Decision:

To publish a factual update note alongside the Climate Change, Sustainable Design, Construction and Energy Supplementary Planning Document following a change to the Building Regulations on June 15 2022.

Reasons for the decision:

The Supplementary Planning Document asks applicants for planning permission to submit building data that is produced as part of the Building Control process as set out in the Building Regulations. Changes to the building regulations mean that some of that information is no longer needed. The note is needed to ensure that planning applicants stop producing and submitting the unnecessary data, reducing the burden for applicants and planning decision makers.

Alternative options considered:

A full review of the Supplementary Planning Document. This option was rejected at this time as we need to see how well the change in approach operates in planning decisions before taking the SPD through the lengthy statutory process that is necessary to amend it.
